Pegasus Airlines

Sometimes stylized as Flypgs, Pegasus Airlines is a low-cost Turkish airline aiming at making travel affordable for everyone. It is one of the most important local Turkish airlines. It is headquartered in Istanbul, and Sabiha International Gökçen Airport is its main operational hub. Pegasus Airlines is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Pegasus Airlines is certified as a 3-Star Low-Cost Airline for the quality of its airport and onboard products and staff service. The product rating includes cabin comfort, baggage/seat charges, buying onboard food and beverages, and cabin cleanliness; the service rating covers cabin and ground staff. According to the Official Airline Guide, Pegasus Airlines was awarded the title of the fastest growing airline in Europe between 2011 and 2012. (OAG)

Pegasus Airlines is certified with the 3-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating for the safety measures and improved health and hygiene processes introduced by Pegasus Airlines to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus. The Skytrax COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating is the world’s only assessment and certification of airline health and safety measures during the coronavirus pandemic that is based on professional and scientific investigation of the actual standards being provided by the airline.

The airline was established in 1990 and inaugurated on April 15, 1990, with two Boeing 737-400s. Greek: Pegasus (Greek: Pégasos,'strong') was a winged horse sired by Poseidon in his role as horse-god and foaled by the Gorgon Medusa in Greek mythology.

However, four months after the launch, Iraq invaded Kuwait, and the seven-month occupation that followed had a serious effect on Turkish tourism. By 1992, tourists began returning to the country, and Pegasus grew with the acquisition of a third 737-400. The airline leased a further two Airbus A320s to meet the summer demand. After two positive years, Aer Lingus and Net sold their shares in the company in 1994 to Istanbul-based YapKredi bank, making Pegasus a purely Turkish company.

Pegasus Airlines is one of Turkish Airlines' leading low-cost airlines and a fast-growing airline inEurope. Pegasus Airlines is one of the most committed Turkish airlines in terms of departure time and landing. Pegasus Airlines holds ISO 9001: 2008 for quality of management systems, ISO certification in environmental management systems 14001: 2004, and an Occupational Safety and Health Certificate 18001 in 2007. Pegasus Airlines offers easy online booking and has a dedicated call center to assist clients with booking related issues.

Baggage

There are two baggage types: checked luggage and carry-on, also referred to as cabin or hand luggage on Pegasus Airlines. Personal belongings on board are referred to as hand luggage (cabin baggage). Luggage delivered to an airline to be stored in an inaccessible area for the passenger during the flight is referred to as checked baggage.

Hand Luggage

Hand luggage, or cabin baggage, is all the personal belongings a passenger can carry along in the cabin. You may take your handbag, laptop bag, etc. into the cabin as long as they are controlled at the security checkpoints. If you wish, you could place them in the overhead lockers.

You can only bring one item of cabin baggage on board with you, no larger than 55x40x20 cm in size.

Checked baggage

It is the passenger's luggage that is in compliance with the airline baggage regulations and delivered to the airline during check-in to be stored in an inaccessible area to the passenger during the flight. In addition to the free baggage, baggage allowances might be increased through the purchase of additional baggage depending on the travel class.

Checked baggage is carried in the custody of the airline and stored in the cargo hold. There are certain rules to be followed for items to be carried on board, and all passengers are expected to comply with these rules.

Extra Baggage

You will have to pay a fee for any baggage in excess of the above Pegasus Airlines limits. The fees are calculated based on the origin and destination of the flight, as well as the weight of the luggage. You can purchase an extra baggage allowance of 20kg of luggage, and then pay a further fee for each additional kilogram of luggage taken on a Pegasus Airlines flight.
